Doctor Disappointments

Yesterday, I had my last appointment with my current psychiatrist. He is retiring. Although I only see him for 20 minutes every 6 months, I will miss those appointments. My therapist has been a far better help as I continue to learn how to live with narcolepsy, but my psychiatrist definitely made an impact on [...]

Crazed and Consternated

I continue to cling to the hope that some day I will once again find a routine or pattern for my daily life. Sadly, I also realize that my dream seems to becoming more and more of a fantasy. For the life of me, I cannot establish any level of normalcy in my life. Although [...]

Narcolepsy Knowledge

The keynote today is Dr. Juliette Faraco, who is an associate of Dr. Mignot. Dr. Mignot had a last minute conflict, thus Dr. Faraco is presenting his research to us. She begins with a basic primer on DNA and the characteristics of the cell. She also provides a brief explanation of SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms [...]

Searching Sleepiness and Holistic Helping

Invariably, I was tired enough last night that I managed to “miss” my second dose at 2 AM. I did take it at 3 AM , but between that and my overexertion yesterday, I did not drag myself out of bed until 9:05 AM – after the first session started. Apparently, Dr. Rye of Emory [...]

Excessive Exhaustion

Although I seem to be handling my struggles better, I find it infuriating that my narcolepsy seems worse than ever. I know that my condition moves in cycles, and I am clearly in a down turn at this time. Still, getting up in the morning is more difficult, and my evening peter out far sooner [...]

MOONS Madness

This past week I twice tried to get decent photos of the full moon. The pictures from the first batch are okay. I have not actually looked at the second set yet. I want them because I am helping get the Midwest Organization of Narcolepsy Support – Minnesota chapter (MOONS-MN) organized. We have set up [...]

Insightful Info One

My plan is to post on topics from the conference throughout the next few days. I need to do this in small chunks or I will never get it done. Please feel free to use the comments section of each post as a place to ask questions. I feel like I learned something in every [...]

Knightly Commentary

This blog is an adventure in discovering who I am, particularly as I learn to live with my friend, narcolepsy. While the disease has drastically impacted my life, this blog will also reflect the many things I do and love that narcolepsy won't and can't take away. More than anything, this blog will be about me returning to health. If that helps or entertains or amuses or upsets others, so be it. I just know that I need to write about where I am and where I'm going. Thanks.
